The city
Robstown is a city in Nueces County just west of Corpus Christi, with about 10,400 residents (2024 estimate). It was founded in 1907 on land from the Driscoll Ranch; the name came from "Rob's Store," a shop opened by Robert Driscoll Jr., which locals called "Rob's town." It is surrounded by cotton and grain fields and is home to the regional fairgrounds.
Heating and cooling in Robstown
Inland heat
Away from the bay, summer afternoons tend to be hotter and the sea breeze weaker, so air conditioners run hard. Systems that are undersized or low on refrigerant show it here first.
Field dust and cottonwood
Dust from surrounding fields, especially during plowing and harvest, coats outdoor coils. A dirty coil raises pressure and electric use and shortens compressor life. Rinse it regularly with power off and keep the area around the unit clear (ENERGY STAR, HVAC Maintenance Checklist).
Older homes and systems
Many homes in town are older, and some still have R-22 systems, window units or ductwork in poor condition. When a major part fails on an older system, replacement often makes more sense than repair.
Heat strips and heat pumps
Homes with electric heat strips can lower winter bills with a heat pump at replacement time.

Robstown HVAC FAQs
How did Robstown get its name?
From "Rob's Store," a shop opened by Robert Driscoll Jr.; residents began calling the settlement "Rob's town."
Why does my outdoor unit get so dirty?
Dust from nearby fields. Rinse the coil gently with a hose, power off, a few times each summer.
Is it worth repairing an old R-22 system?
Minor repairs, maybe. Anything needing refrigerant is expensive because R-22 is no longer produced.
